MY MYOFASCIAL STORY

But what is the connection between fascia training and clearing the energy system?

As we know from the teachings of Hatha yoga, physical exercises, asanas, and breathing exercises, pranayama are coordinated to release blocks in the physical body. By concentrating on the exercises, the mind can be quietened. 

So, it is significant for the physical body that the muscles and joints are mobile and not 'rusty.' Muscles should be flexible, not "set". By studying fascia anatomy, we will learn that in the human body, it is not only the muscles and joints that are important but that a breakdown of the fascia mesh can cause movement restrictions and pain, which can impede the free flow of energy.

Modern fascia anatomy supports and explains in a realistic and "down to earth" scientific way what the ancient system of yoga discovered thousands of years ago. When I first encountered fascia anatomy, it was almost illuminating to me why we do what we do in yoga practice. Why do we stretch in three directions at once and twist our bodies in opposite directions?

 Once I knew the anatomy, the reason, and the benefits of doing the exercises, I became more aware of the energy flow and the release of tension. Studying traditional anatomy (muscles, joints, bones) didn't give me this; the fascial approach made the whole picture.

It's easy to think that the ancient yogis knew more about the inner workings of our bodies than what has survived. It may have taken thousands of years for modern science to get this far.

Fascia anatomy is still actively researched and tested, and discoveries are made almost every year. Most of the research is found in yoga practice and then "translated" into movements that are acceptable to the realistic, non-yogic "Western" sportsperson. The advantage of this, however, is that these beneficial practices are being incorporated into more and more types of training and sports. Bring everyone closer to yoga.

Keep your fascia, muscles, and joints in good shape, and work on mobility, flexibility, and stability to avoid flat spots, tight joints, and, therefore, energy blocks.
